Hakim-hakim 7:13

Konteks
7:13 When Gideon arrived, he heard a man telling another man about a dream he had. 1  The man 2  said, “Look! I had a dream. I saw 3  a stale cake of barley bread rolling into the Midianite camp. It hit a tent so hard it knocked it over and turned it upside down. The tent just collapsed.” 4

Hakim-hakim 11:21

Konteks

Hakim-hakim 11:33

Konteks
11:33 He defeated them from Aroer all the way to Minnith – twenty cities in all, even as far as Abel Keramim! He wiped them out! 6  The Israelites humiliated the Ammonites. 7

Hakim-hakim 12:4

Konteks
12:4 Jephthah assembled all the men of Gilead and they fought with Ephraim. The men of Gilead defeated Ephraim, because the Ephraimites insulted them, saying, 8  “You Gileadites are refugees in Ephraim, living within Ephraim’s and Manasseh’s territory.” 9

Hakim-hakim 14:19

Konteks

14:19 The Lord’s spirit empowered him. He went down to Ashkelon and murdered thirty men. He took their clothes 10  and gave them 11  to the men who had solved the riddle. He was furious as he went back home. 12

Hakim-hakim 18:27

Konteks

Hakim-hakim 20:31

Konteks
20:31 The Benjaminites attacked 15  the army, leaving the city unguarded. 16  They began to strike down their enemy 17  just as they had done before. On the main roads (one leads to Bethel, 18  the other to Gibeah) and in the field, they struck down 19  about thirty Israelites.

Hakim-hakim 20:39

Konteks
20:39 the Israelites counterattacked. 20  Benjamin had begun to strike down the Israelites; 21  they struck down 22  about thirty men. They said, “There’s no doubt about it! They are totally defeated as in the earlier battle.”

Hakim-hakim 20:45

Konteks
20:45 The rest 23  turned and ran toward the wilderness, heading toward the cliff of Rimmon. But the Israelites 24  caught 25  five thousand of them on the main roads. They stayed right on their heels 26  all the way to Gidom and struck down two thousand more.

Hakim-hakim 20:48

20:48 The Israelites returned to the Benjaminite towns 27  and put the sword to them. They wiped out the cities, 28  the animals, and everything they could find. They set fire to every city in their path. 29

[7:13]  1 tn Heb “And Gideon came, and, look, a man was relating to his friend a dream.”

[7:13]  2 tn Heb “he”; the referent (the man mentioned in the previous clause) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[7:13]  3 tn Heb “Look!” The repetition of this interjection, while emphatic in Hebrew, would be redundant in the English translation.

[7:13]  4 tn Heb “It came to the tent and struck it and it fell. It turned it upside down and the tent fell.”

[11:21]  5 tn That is, took as its own possession.

[11:33]  6 tn Heb “with a very great slaughter.”

[11:33]  7 tn Heb “The Ammonites were humbled before the Israelites.”

[12:4]  8 tn Heb “because they said.”

[12:4]  9 tc Heb “Refugees of Ephraim are you, O Gilead, in the midst of Ephraim and in the midst of Manasseh.” The LXX omits the entire second half of the verse (beginning with “because”). The words כִּי אָמְרוּ פְּלִיטֵי אֶפְרַיִם (kiamru pÿliteyefrayim, “because they said, ‘Refugees of Ephraim’”) may have been accidentally copied from the next verse (cf. כִּי יֹאמְרוּ פְּלִיטֵי אֶפְרַיִם, ki yomÿru peliteyefrayim) and the following words (“you, O Gilead…Manasseh”) then added in an attempt to make sense of the verse. See G. F. Moore, Judges (ICC), 307-8, and C. F. Burney, Judges, 327. If the Hebrew text is retained, then the Ephraimites appear to be insulting the Gileadites by describing them as refugees who are squatting on Ephraim’s and Manasseh’s land. The present translation assumes that “Ephraim” is a genitive of location after “refugees.”

[14:19]  10 tn Heb “equipment”; or “gear.”

[14:19]  11 tn Heb “changes [of clothes].”

[14:19]  12 tn Heb “he went up to his father’s house.”

[18:27]  13 tn Heb “they”; the referent (the Danites) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[18:27]  14 tn The Hebrew adds “with fire.” This has not been included in the translation for stylistic reasons, because it is redundant in English.

[20:31]  15 tn Heb “went out to meet.”

[20:31]  16 tn Heb “and they were drawn away from the city.”

[20:31]  17 tn Heb “from the army wounded ones.”

[20:31]  18 map For location see Map4 G4; Map5 C1; Map6 E3; Map7 D1; Map8 G3.

[20:31]  19 tn The words “they struck down” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[20:39]  20 tn Heb “turned in the battle.”

[20:39]  21 tn Heb “And Benjamin began to strike down wounded ones among the men of Israel.”

[20:39]  22 tn The words “they struck down” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[20:45]  23 tn Heb “they”; the referent (the rest [of the Benjaminites]) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:45]  24 tn Heb “and they”; the referent (the Israelites) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:45]  25 tn Heb “gleaned.” The word is an agricultural term which pictures Israelites picking off the Benjaminites as easily as one picks grapes from the vine.

[20:45]  26 tn Heb “stuck close after them.”

[20:48]  27 tn Heb “to the sons of Benjamin.”

[20:48]  28 tc The translation is based on the reading מֵעִיר מְתִים (meir mÿtim, “from a city of men,” i.e., “an inhabited city”), rather than the reading מֵעִיר מְתֹם (meir mÿtom, “from a city of soundness”) found in the Leningrad Codex (L).

[20:48]  29 tn Heb “Also all the cities that were found they set on fire.”

[21:10]  30 tn Heb “men, sons of strength.”

[21:10]  31 tn Heb “there.”

[21:10]  32 tn Heb “the edge of the sword.”
