Hakim-hakim 11:25
Konteks11:25 Are you really better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he dare to quarrel with Israel? Did he dare to fight with them? 2
Hakim-hakim 19:1
Konteks19:1 In those days Israel had no king. There was a Levite 3 living temporarily in the remote region of the Ephraimite hill country. He acquired a concubine 4 from Bethlehem 5 in Judah.
[9:6] 1 tc The translation assumes that the form in the Hebrew text (מֻצָּב, mutsav) is a corruption of an original מַצֵּבָה (matsevah, “pillar”). The reference is probably to a pagan object of worship (cf. LXX).
[11:25] 2 tn The Hebrew grammatical constructions of all three rhetorical questions indicate emphasis, which “really” and “dare to” are intended to express in the translation.
[11:25] sn Jephthah argues that the Ammonite king should follow the example of Balak, who, once thwarted in his attempt to bring a curse on Israel, refused to attack Israel and returned home (Num 22-24).
[19:1] 3 tn Heb “a man, a Levite.”
[19:1] 4 sn See the note on the word “concubine” in 8:31.
