The Lord Speaks to Joshua

13:1 When Joshua was very old, ¹  the Lord told him, “You are very old, and a great deal of land remains to be conquered.

Kejadian 25:8

25:8 Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man who had lived a full life. ²  He joined his ancestors. ³ 

Ulangan 31:2

31:2 He said to them, “Today I am a hundred and twenty years old. I am no longer able to get about, ⁴  and the Lord has said to me, ‘You will not cross the Jordan.’

[13:1]  ¹ tn Heb “was old, coming into the days.” This expression, referring to advancing in years, also occurs in the following clause.

[25:8]  ² tn Heb “old and full.”

[25:8]  ³ tn Heb “And he was gathered to his people.” In the ancient Israelite view he joined his deceased ancestors in Sheol, the land of the dead.

[31:2]  ⁴ tn Or “am no longer able to lead you” (NIV, NLT); Heb “am no longer able to go out and come in.”
