TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Kejadian 30:30

Konteks
30:30 Indeed, 1  you had little before I arrived, 2  but now your possessions have increased many times over. 3  The Lord has blessed you wherever I worked. 4  But now, how long must it be before I do something for my own family too?” 5

Kejadian 30:33

Konteks
30:33 My integrity will testify for me 6  later on. 7  When you come to verify that I’ve taken only the wages we agreed on, 8  if I have in my possession any goat that is not speckled or spotted or any sheep that is not dark-colored, it will be considered stolen.” 9

Kejadian 39:5

Konteks
39:5 From the time 10  Potiphar 11  appointed him over his household and over all that he owned, the Lord blessed 12  the Egyptian’s household for Joseph’s sake. The blessing of the Lord was on everything that he had, both 13  in his house and in his fields. 14

Kejadian 46:34

Konteks
46:34 Tell him, ‘Your servants have taken care of cattle 15  from our youth until now, both we and our fathers,’ so that you may live in the land of Goshen, 16  for everyone who takes care of sheep is disgusting 17  to the Egyptians.”

Kejadian 47:4

Konteks
47:4 Then they said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live as temporary residents 18  in the land. There 19  is no pasture for your servants’ flocks because the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. So now, please let your servants live in the land of Goshen.”

[30:30]  1 tn Or “for.”

[30:30]  2 tn Heb “before me.”

[30:30]  3 tn Heb “and it has broken out with respect to abundance.”

[30:30]  4 tn Heb “at my foot.”

[30:30]  5 tn Heb “How long [until] I do, also I, for my house?”

[30:33]  6 tn Heb “will answer on my behalf.”

[30:33]  7 tn Heb “on the following day,” or “tomorrow.”

[30:33]  8 tn Heb “when you come concerning my wage before you.”

[30:33]  sn Only the wage we agreed on. Jacob would have to be considered completely honest here, for he would have no control over the kind of animals born; and there could be no disagreement over which animals were his wages.

[30:33]  9 tn Heb “every one which is not speckled and spotted among the lambs and dark among the goats, stolen it is with me.”

[39:5]  10 tn Heb “and it was from then.”

[39:5]  11 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Potiphar) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[39:5]  12 sn The Hebrew word translated blessed carries the idea of enrichment, prosperity, success. It is the way believers describe success at the hand of God. The text illustrates the promise made to Abraham that whoever blesses his descendants will be blessed (Gen 12:1-3).

[39:5]  13 tn Heb “in the house and in the field.” The word “both” has been supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[39:5]  14 sn The passage gives us a good picture of Joseph as a young man who was responsible and faithful, both to his master and to his God. This happened within a very short time of his being sold into Egypt. It undermines the view that Joseph was a liar, a tattletale, and an arrogant adolescent.

[46:34]  15 tn Heb “your servants are men of cattle.”

[46:34]  16 sn So that you may live in the land of Goshen. Joseph is apparently trying to stress to Pharaoh that his family is self-sufficient, that they will not be a drain on the economy of Egypt. But they will need land for their animals and so Goshen, located on the edge of Egypt, would be a suitable place for them to live. The settled Egyptians were uneasy with nomadic people, but if Jacob and his family settled in Goshen they would represent no threat.

[46:34]  17 tn Heb “is an abomination.” The Hebrew word תּוֹעֵבָה (toevah, “abomination”) describes something that is loathsome or off-limits. For other practices the Egyptians considered disgusting, see Gen 43:32 and Exod 8:22.

[47:4]  18 tn Heb “to sojourn.”

[47:4]  19 tn Heb “for there.” The Hebrew uses a causal particle to connect what follows with what precedes. The translation divides the statement into two sentences for stylistic reasons.
