33:15 So Esau said, “Let me leave some of my men with you.” ¹  “Why do that?” Jacob replied. ²  “My lord has already been kind enough to me.” ³

41:36 This food should be held in storage for the land in preparation for the seven years of famine that will occur throughout the land of Egypt. In this way the land will survive the famine.” ⁴

41:56 While the famine was over all the earth, ⁵  Joseph opened the storehouses ⁶  and sold grain to the Egyptians. The famine was severe throughout the land of Egypt.

[33:15]  ¹ tn The cohortative verbal form here indicates a polite offer of help.

[33:15]  ² tn Heb “and he said, ‘Why this?’” The referent of the pronoun “he” (Jacob) has been specified for clarity, and the order of the introductory clause and the direct discourse has been rearranged in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[33:15]  ³ tn Heb “I am finding favor in the eyes of my lord.”

[41:36]  ⁴ tn Heb “and the land will not be cut off in the famine.”

[41:56]  ⁵ tn Or “over the entire land”; Heb “over all the face of the earth.” The disjunctive clause is circumstantial-temporal to the next clause.

[41:56]  ⁶ tc The MT reads “he opened all that was in [or “among”] them.” The translation follows the reading of the LXX and Syriac versions.
