39:2 The Lord was with Joseph. He was successful ¹  and lived ²  in the household of his Egyptian master.

11:21 The ³  hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed ⁴  turned ⁵  to the Lord.

[39:2]  ¹ tn Heb “and he was a prosperous man.” This does not mean that Joseph became wealthy, but that he was successful in what he was doing, or making progress in his situation (see 24:21).

[11:21]  ³ tn Grk “And the.” Because of the difference between Greek style, which often begins sentences or clauses with “and,” and English style, which generally does not, καί (kai) has not been translated here.

[11:21]  ⁴ tn The participle πιστεύσας (pisteusa") is articular and thus cannot be adverbial. It is adjectival, modifying ἀριθμός (ariqmo"), but has been translated into English as a relative clause (“who believed”).

[11:21]  ⁵ sn Again, the expression turned is a summary term for responding to the gospel.
