30:6 This is a message 8  about the animals in the Negev:

[42:26]  1 tn Heb “and they went from there.”

[42:2]  2 tn Heb “and buy for us from there.” The word “grain,” the direct object of “buy,” has been supplied for clarity, and the words “from there” have been omitted in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[42:2]  3 tn Following the imperatives, the prefixed verbal form with prefixed vav expresses purpose of result.

[42:2]  4 tn The imperfect tense continues the nuance of the verb before it.

[16:1]  5 tc The Lucianic recension of the Old Greek translation includes the following words: “And the Lord said to Samuel.”

[16:1]  6 map For location see Map5 B1; Map7 E2; Map8 E2; Map10 B4.

[16:1]  7 tn Heb “for I have seen among his sons for me a king.”

[30:6]  8 tn Traditionally, “burden” (so KJV, ASV); NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV “oracle.”

[30:6]  9 tc Heb “[a land of] a lioness and a lion, from them.” Some emend מֵהֶם (mehem, “from them”) to מֵהֵם (mehem), an otherwise unattested Hiphil participle from הָמַם (hamam, “move noisily”). Perhaps it would be better to take the initial mem (מ) as enclitic and emend the form to הֹמֶה (homeh), a Qal active participle from הָמָה (hamah, “to make a noise”); cf. J. N. Oswalt, Isaiah (NICOT), 1:542, n. 9.

[30:6]  10 tn Heb “flying fiery one.” See the note at 14:29.

[30:6]  11 tn Or “carry” (KJV, NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV).

[30:6]  12 sn This verse describes messengers from Judah transporting wealth to Egypt in order to buy Pharaoh’s protection through a treaty.
