43:27 He asked them how they were doing. ¹  Then he said, “Is your aging father well, the one you spoke about? Is he still alive?”

47:5 Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.

49:8 Judah, ²  your brothers will praise you.

Your hand will be on the neck of your enemies,

your father’s sons will bow down before you.

50:16 So they sent word ³  to Joseph, saying, “Your father gave these instructions before he died:

[49:8]  ² sn There is a wordplay here; the name Judah (יְהוּדָה, yÿhudah) sounds in Hebrew like the verb translated praise (יוֹדוּךָ, yodukha). The wordplay serves to draw attention to the statement as having special significance.

[50:16]  ³ tn The verb means “command,” but they would hardly be commanding him. It probably means they sent their father’s instructions to Joseph.
