49:16 Dan ¹  will judge ²  his people

as one of the tribes of Israel.

49:28 These ³  are the twelve tribes of Israel. This is what their father said to them when he blessed them. He gave each of them an appropriate blessing. ⁴

[49:16]  ¹ sn The name Dan (דָּן, dan) means “judge” and forms a wordplay with the following verb.

[49:28]  ³ tn Heb “All these.”

[49:28]  ⁴ tn Heb “and he blessed them, each of whom according to his blessing, he blessed them.”

[34:12]  ⁵ tn Heb “Who is the man who desires life?” The rhetorical question is used to grab the audience’s attention. “Life” probably refers here to quality of life, not just physical existence or even duration of life. See the following line.
