8:22 “While the earth continues to exist, ¹ 

planting time ²  and harvest,

cold and heat,

summer and winter,

and day and night will not cease.”

Imamat 26:4

26:4 I will give you your rains in their time so that ³  the land will give its yield and the trees of the field will produce their fruit. ⁴

85:13 Deliverance goes ⁵  before him,

and prepares ⁶  a pathway for him. ⁷ 

Yesaya 55:10

55:10 ⁸ The rain and snow fall from the sky

and do not return,

but instead water the earth

and make it produce and yield crops,

and provide seed for the planter and food for those who must eat.

Yehezkiel 34:27

34:27 The trees of the field will yield their fruit and the earth will yield its crops. They will live securely on their land; they will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hand of those who enslaved them.

Zakharia 8:12

8:12 ‘for there will be a peaceful time of sowing, the vine will produce its fruit and the ground its yield, and the skies ⁹  will rain down dew. Then I will allow the remnant of my people to possess all these things.

[8:22]  ¹ tn Heb “yet all the days of the earth.” The idea is “[while there are] yet all the days of the earth,” meaning, “as long as the earth exists.”

[8:22]  ² tn Heb “seed,” which stands here by metonymy for the time when seed is planted.

[26:4]  ³ tn Heb “and.” The Hebrew conjunction ו (vav, “and”) can be considered to have resultative force here.

[26:4]  ⁴ tn Heb “the tree of the field will give its fruit.” As a collective singular this has been translated as plural.

[85:13]  ⁵ tn Or “will go.”

[85:13]  ⁶ tn Or “will prepare.”

[85:13]  ⁷ tn Heb “and it prepares for a way his footsteps.” Some suggest emending וְיָשֵׂם (vÿyasem, “and prepares”) to וְשָׁלוֹם (vÿshalom, “and peace”) since “deliverance” and “peace” are closely related earlier in v. 13. This could be translated, “and peace [goes ahead, making] a pathway for his footsteps” (cf. NEB).

[55:10]  ⁸ tn This verse begins in the Hebrew text with כִּי כַּאֲשֶׁר (ki ka’asher, “for, just as”), which is completed by כֵּן (ken, “so, in the same way”) at the beginning of v. 11. For stylistic reasons, this lengthy sentence is divided up into separate sentences in the translation.

[8:12]  ⁹ tn Or “the heavens” (so KJV, NAB, NIV). The Hebrew term שָׁמַיִם (shamayim) may be translated “heavens” or “skies” depending on the context.
