Timothy Joins Paul and Silas

16:1 He also came to Derbe ⁴  and to Lystra. ⁵  A disciple ⁶  named Timothy was there, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, ⁷  but whose father was a Greek. ⁸

[4:24]  sn The use of the title Master of all (δεσπότης, despoths) emphasizes that there is a sovereign God who is directing what is taking place.

[4:24]  ³ tn Grk “and the earth, and the sea,” but καί (kai) has not been translated before “the earth” and “the sea” since contemporary English normally uses a coordinating conjunction only between the last two elements in a series of three or more.

[16:1]  ⁴ sn Derbe was a city in Lycaonia about 35 mi (60 km) southeast of Lystra. It was about 90 mi (145 km) from Tarsus.
