[6:10]  1 tn Grk “and.” The context, however, indicates that the conjunction carries an adversative force.

[6:10]  2 sn They were not able to resist. This represents another fulfillment of Luke 12:11-12; 21:15.

[9:28]  3 tn Grk “he was with them going in and going out in Jerusalem.” The expression “going in and going out” is probably best taken as an idiom for association without hindrance. Some modern translations (NASB, NIV) translate the phrase “moving about freely in Jerusalem,” although the NRSV retains the literal “he went in and out among them in Jerusalem.”

[14:18]  4 tn The participle λέγοντες (legontes) is regarded as indicating means.

[14:18]  5 tn BDAG 524 s.v. καταπαύω 2.b gives both “restrain” and “dissuade someone fr. someth.,” but “they scarcely dissuaded the crowds from offering sacrifice,” while accurate, is less common in contemporary English than saying “they scarcely persuaded the crowds not to offer sacrifice.” Paganism is portrayed as a powerful reality that is hard to reverse.
