[15:24]  1 sn This statement links the parable to the theme of 15:6, 9.

[15:24]  2 tn Here καί (kai) has been translated as “so” to indicate the result of the father’s remarks in the preceding verses.

[16:11]  3 tn Or “faithful.”

[16:11]  4 tn Grk “the unrighteous mammon.” See the note on the phrase “worldly wealth” in v. 9.

[16:11]  5 sn Entrust you with the true riches is a reference to future service for God. The idea is like 1 Cor 9:11, except there the imagery is reversed.

[16:14]  6 sn See the note on Pharisees in 5:17.

[16:14]  7 tn A figurative extension of the literal meaning “to turn one’s nose up at someone”; here “ridicule, sneer at, show contempt for” (L&N 33.409).

[18:19]  8 tn Grk “And Jesus.” Here καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[18:19]  9 sn Jesus’ response, Why do you call me good?, was designed to cause the ruler to stop and think for a moment about who Jesus really was. The following statement No one is good except God alone seems to point the man in the direction of Jesus’ essential nature and the demands which logically follow on the man for having said it.

[20:33]  10 sn The point is a dilemma. In a world arguing a person should have one wife, whose wife will she be in the afterlife? The question was designed to show that (in the opinion of the Sadducees) resurrection leads to a major problem.

[20:33]  11 tn Grk “For the seven had her as wife.”
