17:14 When ¹  he saw them he said, “Go ²  and show yourselves to the priests.” ³  And ⁴  as they went along, they were cleansed.

Lukas 19:5

19:5 And when Jesus came to that place, he looked up ⁵  and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, ⁶  because I must ⁷  stay at your house today.” ⁸ 

[17:14]  ¹ tn Καί (kai) has not been translated because of differences between Greek and English style.

[17:14]  ² tn The participle πορευθέντες (poreuqente") is a good example of an adverbial participle of attendant circumstance. As such, it picks up the force of an imperative from the verb to which it is related (ExSyn 640-45).

[17:14]  ³ sn These are the instructions of what to do with a healing (Lev 13:19; 14:1-11; Luke 5:14).

[17:14]  ⁴ tn Grk “And it happened that as.” The introductory phrase ἐγένετο (egeneto, “it happened that”), common in Luke (69 times) and Acts (54 times), is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

[19:5]  ⁵ tc Most mss (A [D] W [Ψ] ˹³ 33^vid Ï latt) read “Jesus looking up, saw him and said.” The words “saw him and” are not in א B L T Θ Ë¹ 579 1241 2542 pc co. Both the testimony for the omission and the natural tendency toward scribal expansion argue for the shorter reading here.

[19:5]  ⁶ tn Grk “hastening, come down.” σπεύσας (speusa") has been translated as a participle of manner.

[19:5]  ⁷ sn I must stay. Jesus revealed the necessity of his associating with people like Zacchaeus (5:31-32). This act of fellowship indicated acceptance.
