The Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector

18:9 Jesus ¹  also told this parable to some who were confident that they were righteous and looked down ²  on everyone else.

Lukas 19:38

19:38 “Blessed is the king ³  who comes in the name of the Lord! ⁴  Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!”

[18:9]  ¹ tn Grk “He”; the referent has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[18:9]  ² tn Grk “and despised.” This is a second parable with an explanatory introduction.

[19:38]  ³ sn Luke adds the title king to the citation from Ps 118:26 to make clear who was meant (see Luke 18:38). The psalm was used in looking for the deliverance of the end, thus leading to the Pharisees’ reaction.
