Lukas 9:13

9:13 But he said to them, “You ¹  give them something to eat.” They ²  replied, ³  “We have no more than five loaves and two fish – unless ⁴  we go ⁵  and buy food ⁶  for all these people.”

20:46 “Beware ¹⁰  of the experts in the law. ¹¹  They ¹²  like walking around in long robes, and they love elaborate greetings ¹³  in the marketplaces and the best seats ¹⁴  in the synagogues ¹⁵  and the places of honor at banquets.

[9:13]  ⁶ sn Not only would going and buying food have been expensive and awkward at this late time of day, it would have taken quite a logistical effort to get the food back out to this isolated location.

[18:14]  ⁷ sn The prayer that was heard and honored was the one given with humility; in a surprising reversal it was the tax collector who went down to his home justified.

[18:14]  ⁸ tn Grk “the other”; the referent (the Pharisee, v. 10) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[18:14]  ⁹ sn Everyone who exalts himself. See Luke 14:11. Jesus often called for humility and condemned those who sought honor.

[20:46]  ¹⁰ tn Or “Be on guard against.” This is a present imperative and indicates that pride is something to constantly be on the watch against.
