102:7 I stay awake; ¹ 

I am like a solitary bird on a roof.

Yesaya 13:21

13:21 Wild animals will rest there,

the ruined ²  houses will be full of hyenas. ³ 

Ostriches will live there,

wild goats will skip among the ruins. ⁴ 

[102:7]  ¹ tn This probably refers to the psalmist’s inability to sleep. Another option is to translate, “I keep watch,” in which case it might refer to watching for a response from the Lord (see vv. 1-2).

[13:21]  ³ tn The precise referent of this word in uncertain. See HALOT 29 s.v. *אֹחַ. Various English versions translate as “owls” (e.g., NAB, NASB), “wild dogs” (NCV); “jackals” (NIV); “howling creatures” (NRSV, NLT).
