6:3 I am absolutely terrified, ¹ 

and you, Lord – how long will this continue? ²

9:14 Then I will ³  tell about all your praiseworthy acts; ⁴ 

in the gates of Daughter Zion ⁵  I will rejoice because of your deliverance.” ⁶ 

[6:3]  ¹ tn Heb “my being is very terrified.” The suffixed form of נֶפֶשׁ (nefesh, “being”) is often equivalent to a pronoun in poetic texts.

[6:3]  ² tn Heb “and you, Lord, how long?” The suffering psalmist speaks in broken syntax. He addresses God, but then simply cries out with a brief, but poignant, question: How long will this (= his suffering) continue?

[9:14]  ³ tn Or “so that I might.”

[9:14]  ⁴ tn Heb “all your praise.” “Praise” stands by metonymy for the mighty acts that prompt it.

[9:14]  ⁵ sn Daughter Zion is an idiomatic title for Jerusalem. It appears frequently in the prophets, but only here in the psalms.
