Mazmur 83:9

83:9 Do to them as you did to Midian ¹  –

as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River! ² 

Mikha 5:5

5:5 He will give us peace. ³ 

Should the Assyrians try to invade our land

and attempt to set foot in our fortresses, ⁴ 

we will send ⁵  against them seven ⁶  shepherd-rulers, ⁷ 

make that eight commanders. ⁸

[83:9]  ² sn The psalmist alludes here to Gideon’s victory over the Midianites (see Judg 7-8) and to Barak’s victory over Jabin’s army, which was led by his general Sisera (Judg 4-5).

[5:5]  ³ tn Heb “and this one will be peace”; ASV “and this man shall be our peace” (cf. Eph 2:14).

[5:5]  ⁴ tc Some prefer to read “in our land,” emending the text to בְּאַדְמָתֵנוּ (bÿ’admatenu).

[5:5]  ⁵ tn Heb “raise up.”

[5:5]  ⁶ sn The numbers seven and eight here symbolize completeness and emphasize that Israel will have more than enough military leadership and strength to withstand the Assyrian advance.
