Mazmur 83:9
Konteks83:9 Do to them as you did to Midian 1 –
as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River! 2
Mikha 5:5
KonteksShould the Assyrians try to invade our land
and attempt to set foot in our fortresses, 4
we will send 5 against them seven 6 shepherd-rulers, 7
make that eight commanders. 8
[83:9] 1 tn Heb “do to them like Midian.”
[83:9] 2 sn The psalmist alludes here to Gideon’s victory over the Midianites (see Judg 7-8) and to Barak’s victory over Jabin’s army, which was led by his general Sisera (Judg 4-5).
[5:5] 3 tn Heb “and this one will be peace”; ASV “and this man shall be our peace” (cf. Eph 2:14).
[5:5] 4 tc Some prefer to read “in our land,” emending the text to בְּאַדְמָתֵנוּ (bÿ’admatenu).
[5:5] 6 sn The numbers seven and eight here symbolize completeness and emphasize that Israel will have more than enough military leadership and strength to withstand the Assyrian advance.
