Markus 2:8

2:8 Now ¹  immediately, when Jesus realized in his spirit that they were contemplating such thoughts, ²  he said to them, “Why are you thinking such things in your hearts? ³ 

Markus 12:17

12:17 Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” ⁴  And they were utterly amazed at him.

Markus 12:25

12:25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels ⁵  in heaven.

[2:8]  ¹ tn Grk “And.” Here καί (kai) has been translated as “now” to indicate the shift from the thoughts of the experts in the law to Jesus’ response.

[2:8]  ² tn Grk “they were thus reasoning within themselves.”

[2:8]  ³ tn Grk “Why are you reasoning these things in your hearts?”

[12:17]  ⁴ sn Jesus’ answer to give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s was a both/and, not the questioners’ either/or. So he slipped out of their trap.

[12:25]  ⁵ sn Angels do not die, nor do they eat according to Jewish tradition (1 En. 15:6; 51:4; Wis 5:5; 2 Bar. 51:10; 1QH 3.21-23).
