[17:1]  1 sn Psalm 17. The psalmist asks God to intervene on his behalf because his life is threatened by dangerous enemies. He appeals to divine justice, for he is certain of his own innocence. Because he is innocent, he expects to encounter God and receive an assuring word.

[17:1]  2 tn Heb “hear, Lord, what is just.”

[17:1]  3 tn Heb “Listen to my prayer, [made] without lips of deceit.”

[37:14]  4 tn Heb “to cause to fall.”

[37:14]  5 tn Heb “the upright in way,” i.e., those who lead godly lives.

[41:6]  6 tn Heb “to see.”

[41:6]  7 tn Heb “he speaks deceitfully.”

[41:6]  8 tn Heb “his heart gathers sin to itself.”

[41:6]  9 tn Heb “he goes outside and speaks.”

[97:12]  10 tn Heb “to his holy remembrance.” The Hebrew noun זָכַר (zakhar, “remembrance”) here refers to the name of the Lord as invoked in liturgy and praise. Cf. Pss 6:5; 30:4. The Lord’s “name” is “holy” in the sense that it is a reminder of his uniqueness and greatness.

[111:1]  11 sn Psalm 111. The psalmist praises God for his marvelous deeds, especially the way in which he provides for and delivers his people. The psalm is an acrostic. After the introductory call to praise, every poetic line (twenty-two in all) begins with a successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
