[18:40]  1 tn Heb “and [as for] my enemies, you give to me [the] back [or “neck”].” The idiom “give [the] back” means “to cause [one] to turn the back and run away.” Cf. Exod 23:27.

[18:40]  2 sn Those who hate me. See v. 17, where it is the Lord who delivered the psalmist from those who hated him.

[35:24]  3 tn Heb “rejoice.”

[91:11]  4 tn Heb “for his angels he will command concerning you.”

[91:11]  5 tn Heb “in all your ways.”

[103:18]  6 tn Heb “to those who remember his precepts to do them.”

[104:26]  7 tn Heb “[and] this Leviathan, [which] you formed to play in it.” Elsewhere Leviathan is a multiheaded sea monster that symbolizes forces hostile to God (see Ps 74:14; Isa 27:1), but here it appears to be an actual marine creature created by God, probably some type of whale.

[109:15]  8 tn Heb “may they [that is, the sins mentioned in v. 14] be before the Lord continually.”

[109:15]  9 tn Heb “their memory.” The plural pronominal suffix probably refers back to the children mentioned in v. 13, and for clarity this has been specified in the translation.

[119:34]  10 tn The two prefixed verbal forms with vav (ו) conjunctive indicate purpose/result after the introductory imperative.

[119:117]  11 tn Or “and that I might focus.” The two cohortatives with vav (ו) conjunctive indicate purpose/result after the imperative at the beginning of the verse.

[144:6]  12 sn Arrows and lightning bolts are associated in other texts (see Pss 18:14; 77:17-18; Zech 9:14), as well as in ancient Near Eastern art (see R. B. Chisholm, “An Exegetical and Theological study of Psalm 18/2 Samuel 22” [Th.D. diss., Dallas Theological Seminary, 1983], 187).
