Mazmur 25:3

25:3 Certainly none who rely on you will be humiliated.

Those who deal in treachery will be thwarted ¹  and humiliated.

Mazmur 91:13

91:13 You will subdue ²  a lion and a snake; ³ 

you will trample underfoot a young lion and a serpent.

Mazmur 78:8

78:8 Then they will not be like their ancestors,

who were a stubborn and rebellious generation,

a generation that was not committed

and faithful to God. ⁴

81:7 In your distress you called out and I rescued you.

I answered you from a dark thundercloud. ⁵

Mazmur 99:6

99:6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests;

Samuel was one of those who prayed to him. ⁷ 

They ⁸  prayed to the Lord and he answered them.

[25:3]  ¹ tn Heb “those who deal in treachery in vain.” The adverb רֵיקָם (reqam, “in vain”) probably refers to the failure (or futility) of their efforts. Another option is to understand it as meaning “without cause” (cf. NIV “without excuse”; NRSV “wantonly treacherous”).

[91:13]  ² tn Heb “walk upon.”

[91:13]  ³ tn Or perhaps “cobra” (see Ps 58:4).

[78:8]  ⁴ tn Heb “a generation that did not make firm its heart and whose spirit was not faithful with God.” The expression “make firm the heart” means “to be committed, devoted” (see 1 Sam 7:3).

[81:7]  ⁵ tn Heb “I answered you in the hidden place of thunder.” This may allude to God’s self-revelation at Mount Sinai, where he appeared in a dark cloud accompanied by thunder (see Exod 19:16).

[81:7]  ⁶ sn The name Meribah means “strife.” Two separate but similar incidents at the place called Meribah are recorded in the Pentateuch (Exod 17:1-7; Num 20:1-13). In both cases the Israelites complained about lack of water and the Lord miraculously provided for them.

[99:6]  ⁷ tn Heb “among those who called on his name.”

[99:6]  ⁸ tn Heb “those who.” The participle is in apposition to the phrase “those who called on his name” in the preceding line.
