Mazmur 55:23

55:23 But you, O God, will bring them ¹  down to the deep Pit. ² 

Violent and deceitful people ³  will not live even half a normal lifespan. ⁴ 

But as for me, I trust in you.

Mazmur 65:4

65:4 How blessed ⁵  is the one whom you choose,

and allow to live in your palace courts. ⁶ 

May we be satisfied with the good things of your house –

your holy palace. ⁷ 

[55:23]  ¹ tn The pronominal suffix refers to the psalmist’s enemies (see v. 19).

[55:23]  ² tn Heb “well of the pit.” The Hebrew term שַׁחַת (shakhat, “pit”) is often used as a title for Sheol (see Pss 16:10; 30:9; 49:9; 103:4).

[65:4]  ⁵ tn The Hebrew noun is an abstract plural. The word often refers metonymically to the happiness that God-given security and prosperity produce (see Pss 1:1; 2:12; 34:9; 41:1; 84:12; 89:15; 106:3; 112:1; 127:5; 128:1; 144:15).
