[74:21]  3 sn Let the oppressed and poor praise your name! The statement is metonymic. The point is this: May the oppressed be delivered from their enemies! Then they will have ample reason to praise God’s name.

[89:10]  4 tn Heb “Rahab.” The name “Rahab” means “proud one.” Since it is sometimes used of Egypt (see Ps 87:4; Isa 30:7), the passage may allude to the exodus. However, the name is also used of the sea (or the mythological sea creature) which symbolizes the disruptive forces of the world that seek to replace order with chaos (see Job 9:13; 26:12). Isa 51:9 appears to combine the mythological and historical referents. The association of Rahab with the sea in Ps 89 (see v. 9) suggests that the name carries symbolic force in this context. In this case the passage may allude to creation (see vv. 11-12), when God overcame the great deep and brought order out of chaos.

[105:37]  8 tn Heb “them”; the referent (the Lord’s people) has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[105:37]  9 tn The word “enriched” is supplied in the translation for clarification and for stylistic reasons.

[105:40]  10 tn Heb “he [i.e., his people] asked.” The singular form should probably be emended to a plural שָׁאֲלוּ (shaalu, “they asked”), the vav (ו) having fallen off by haplography (note the vav at the beginning of the following form).

[105:40]  11 tn Or “bread of heaven.” The reference is to manna (see Exod 16:4, 13-15).

[111:6]  12 tn Heb “the strength of his deeds he proclaimed to his people, to give to them an inheritance of nations.”
