[69:5]  1 tn Heb “you know my foolishness.”

[69:5]  2 sn The psalmist is the first to admit that he is not perfect. But even so, he is innocent of the allegations which his enemies bring against him (v. 5b). God, who is aware of his foolish sins and guilt, can testify to the truth of his claim.

[77:17]  3 tn Heb “water.”

[77:17]  4 tn Heb “a sound the clouds gave.”

[77:17]  5 tn The lightning accompanying the storm is portrayed as the Lord’s “arrows” (see v. 18).

[92:5]  6 tn Heb “very deep [are] your thoughts.” God’s “thoughts” refer here to his moral design of the world, as outlined in vv. 6-15.

[93:5]  7 tn Traditionally “your testimonies.” The Hebrew noun עֵדוּת (’edut) refers here to the demands of God’s covenant law. See Ps 19:7.

[93:5]  8 sn The rules you set down. God’s covenant contains a clear, reliable witness to his moral character and demands.

[93:5]  9 sn Holiness refers here to God’s royal transcendence (see vv. 1-4), as well as his moral authority and perfection (see v. 5a).

[93:5]  10 tn Heb “for your house holiness is fitting, O Lord, for length of days.”

[94:5]  11 tn Or “your inheritance.”

[119:9]  12 tn Heb “young man.” Hebrew wisdom literature often assumes and reflects the male-oriented perspective of ancient Israelite society. The principle of the psalm is certainly applicable to all people, regardless of their gender or age. To facilitate modern application, the gender specific “young man” has been translated with the more neutral “young person.”

[119:9]  13 tn Heb “purify his path.”

[119:9]  14 tn Heb “by keeping according to your word.” Many medieval Hebrew mss as well as the LXX read the plural, “your words.”

[119:27]  15 tn Heb “the way of your precepts make me understand.”

[119:27]  16 tn The cohortative with vav (ו) conjunctive indicates purpose/result after the preceding imperative.

[119:27]  17 tn Heb “your amazing things,” which refers here to the teachings of the law (see v. 18).

[119:38]  18 tn Heb “word.”

[119:38]  19 tn Heb “which [is] for your fear,” that is, the promise made to those who exhibit fear of God.

[119:41]  20 tn Heb “and may your loyal love come to me.”

[119:41]  21 tn Or “salvation” (so many English versions).

[119:41]  22 tn Heb “according to your word.”

[119:55]  23 tn The cohortative verbal form expresses the psalmist’s resolve to obey the law.

[119:63]  24 tn Heb “to all who fear you.”

[119:67]  25 tn Heb “before I suffered, I was straying off.”

[119:67]  26 tn Heb “your word.”

[119:98]  27 tn The plural form needs to be revocalized as a singular in order to agree with the preceding singular verb and the singular pronoun in the next line. The Lord’s “command” refers here to the law (see Ps 19:8).

[119:120]  28 tn Heb “my flesh.”

[119:120]  29 tn The Hebrew verb סָמַר (samar, “to tremble”) occurs only here and in Job 4:15.

[119:120]  30 tn Heb “from fear of you.” The pronominal suffix on the noun is an objective genitive.

[119:134]  31 tn Or “redeem me.”

[119:134]  32 tn The cohortative verbal form with vav (ו) conjunctive indicates purpose/result after the preceding imperative.

[119:173]  33 tn The words “to obey” are not in the Hebrew text, but have been supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons and for clarity.

[145:5]  34 tn Heb “the splendor of the glory of your majesty, and the matters of your amazing deeds I will ponder.”

[145:6]  35 tn The prefixed verbal form is understood as an imperfect, indicating how the psalmist expects his audience to respond to his praise. Another option is to take the forms as a jussive, indicating the psalmist’s wish, “may they proclaim.”
