• [Nah 1:3] Adore And Tremble, For Our God

  Adore and tremble, for our God Is a consuming fire! His jealous eyes His wrath inflame, And raise His vengeance higher. Almighty vengeance, how it burns! How bright His fury glows! Vast magazines of plagues and storms Lie treasured for his foes. Those heaps of wrath, by slow degrees, Are forced into a flame; But kindled, oh! how fierce they blaze! And rend all nature’s frame. At His approach the mountains flee, And seek a watery grave: The frighted sea makes haste away, And shrinks up every wave. Through the wide air the mighty rocks Are swift as hailstones hurled; Who dares engage His fiery rage That shakes the solid world? Yet, mighty God, Thy sovereign grace Sits regent on the throne; The refuge of Thy chosen race When wrath comes rushing down. Thy hand shall on rebellious kings A fiery tempest pour, While we beneath Thy sheltering wings Thy just revenge adore.

  Great Ruler of all nature’s frame, We own Thy power divine; We hear Thy breath in every storm, For all the winds are Thine. Wide as they sweep their sounding way, They work Thy sovereign will; And, awed by Thy majestic voice, Confusion shall be still. Thy mercy tempers every blast To those who seek Thy face; And mingles, with the tempest’s roar, The whispers of Thy grace. Those gentle whispers let me hear, Till all the tumult cease, And gales of Paradise shall lull My weary soul to peace.

  Thou hidden source of calm repose, Thou all sufficient love divine, My help and refuge from my foes, Secure I am if Thou art mine; And lo! from sin and grief and shame I hide me, Jesus, in Thy Name. Thy mighty Name salvation is, And keeps my happy soul above; Comfort it brings, and power and peace, And joy and everlasting love; To me with Thy dear Name are given Pardon and holiness and Heaven. Jesus, my all in all Thou art, My rest in toil, my ease in pain, The healing of my broken heart, In war my peace, in loss my gain, My smile beneath the tyrant’s frown, In shame my glory and my crown.
