[2:5]  1 tn Heb “If upon the king it is good.” So also in v. 7.

[2:7]  2 tn Heb “across the river,” here and often elsewhere in the Book of Nehemiah.

[3:13]  3 tn Heb “one thousand cubits.” The standard cubit in the OT is assumed by most authorities to be about eighteen inches (45 cm) long, so this section of the wall would be about fifteen hundred feet (450 m).

[4:22]  4 tn Heb “said [to].”

[9:4]  5 tc Heb “Bani.” The translation reads “Binnui” (so also NAB) rather than the MT reading “Bani.” Otherwise there are two individuals with the same name in this verse. The name “Binnui” appears, for example, in Neh 10:10.

[9:4]  6 tn Heb “in a great voice.”

[10:14]  7 tn Heb “heads”; ASV “chiefs.”

[12:22]  8 tn Some scholars delete these words, regarding them as a later scribal addition to the text.

[13:11]  9 tn Heb “and I stood them on their standing.”
