Saul Begins to Persecute the Church

Now on that day a great ⁶  persecution began ⁷  against the church in Jerusalem, ⁸  and all ⁹  except the apostles were forced to scatter throughout the regions ¹⁰  of Judea and Samaria.

[13:21]  ¹ sn Zin is on the southern edge of the land, but Rehob is far north, near Mount Hermon. The spies covered all the land.

[13:21]  ² tn The idiom uses the infinitive construct: “to enter Hamath,” meaning, “on the way that people go to Hamath.”

[13:1]  ³ sn Chapter 13 provides the names of the spies sent into the land (vv. 1-16), their instructions (vv. 17-20), their activities (vv. 21-25), and their reports (vv. 26-33). It is a chapter that serves as a good lesson on faith, for some of the spies walked by faith, and some by sight.

[13:1]  ⁴ tn The verse starts with the vav (ו) consecutive on the verb: “and….”

[8:1]  ⁵ tn The term ἀναίρεσις (anairesi") can refer to murder (BDAG 64 s.v.; 2 Macc 5:13; Josephus, Ant. 5.2.12 [5.165]).
