  Jesus, and shall it ever be, A mortal man, ashamed of Thee? Ashamed of Thee, whom angels praise, Whose glories shine through endless days? Ashamed of Jesus! sooner far Let night disown each radiant star! ’Tis midnight with my soul, till He, Bright Morning Star, bid darkness flee. Ashamed of Jesus! O as soon Let morning blush to own the sun! He sheds the beams of light divine O’er this benighted soul of mine. Ashamed of Jesus! that dear Friend On Whom my hopes of Heav’n depend! No; when I blush, be this my shame, That I no more revere His Name. Ashamed of Jesus! yes, I may When I’ve no guilt to wash away; No tear to wipe, no good to crave, No fears to quell, no soul to save. Ashamed of Jesus! empty pride! Ashamed of Jesus! shall yon field Blush when it think who bids it yield? Yet blush I must, while I adore, I blush to think I yield no more. Ashamed of Jesus! of that Friend On whom for heaven my hopes depend! It must not be! be this my shame, That I no more revere His name. • [Luk 9:26] In Token That Thou Shalt Not Fear

  In token that thou shalt not fear Christ crucified to own, We print the cross upon thee here, And stamp thee His alone. In token that thou shalt not blush To glory in His Name, We blazon here upon thy front His glory and His shame. In token that thou shalt not flinch Christ’s quarrel to maintain, But ’neath His banner manfully Firm at thy post remain. In token that thou too shalt tread The path He traveled by, Endure the cross, despise the shame, And sit thee down on high. Thus outwardly and visibly We seal thee for His own; And may the brow that wears His cross Hereafter share His crown.

  I believe the Bible, it taught me how to pray, Jesus heard and answered, took my sins away; Gave me peace and pardon, wrote my name above, Glory hallelujah! for His wondrous love. Refrain I believe the Bible, O it is divine! Heaven’s golden sunlight in its pages shine; Lights my way to glory, and I’m surely going thro’; I believe the Bible, for ’tis ever true. I believe the Bible, it teaches me to sing, Moses’ song of vict’ry o’er the tyrant king; Or with Paul and Silas, midnight brings release, Glory hallelujah! for His perfect peace. Refrain I believe the Bible, of holiness it speaks, Gracious gift of Jesus to the one who seeks; Tells of keeping power, ’neath the cleansing flood, Glory hallelujah! for the precious blood. • [Yoh 2:1] Lord, Who At Cana’s Wedding Feast

  Lord, who at Cana’s wedding feast Didst as a Guest appear, Thou dearer far than earthly guest, Vouchsafe Thy presence here. For holy Thou indeed dost prove The marriage vow to be, Proclaiming it a type of love Between the Church and Thee. This holy vow that man can make, The golden thread in life, The bond that none may dare to break, That bindeth man and wife, Which, blest by Thee, whate’er betide, No evil shall destroy, Through careworn days each care divides And doubles every joy. On those who now before Thee kneel, O Lord, Thy blessing pour, That each may wake the other’s zeal To love Thee more and more. Oh, grant them here in peace to live, In purity and love, And, this world leaving, to receive A crown of life above.

  Since Jesus freely did appear To grace a marriage feast O Lord, we ask Thy presence here, To make a wedding Guest. Upon the bridal pair look down, Who now have plighted hands; Their union with Thy favor crown, And bless the nuptial bands. With gifts of grace their hearts endow, Of all rich dowries blest; Their substance bless, and peace bestow, To sweeten all the rest. In purest love their souls unite, That they with Christian care, May make domestic burdens light, By taking mutual share. As Isaac and Rebecca give A pattern chaste and kind; So may this new-met couple live In faithful friendship joined.

• [Yoh 2:1] Wedding Took Place, A

  A wedding took place in the village of Cana, And Jesus, His mother, and followers all came. The wine was exhausted, and Mary informed Him, “They have no more wine”—this would surely bring shame. “Dear woman,” He answered, “why do you involve Me? My time to be recognized has not yet come.” His mother then said to the servants there waiting, “Whatever He tells you, now let it be done.” Six water jars stood there for ritual washing, Each holding then full twenty gallons or more. He said to the servants, “Now fill them with water.” They filled them brimful; there was no room for more. Then Jesus instructed, “Take some to the master.” The water had turned into wine—none knew how. On tasting, the master exclaimed in amazement, “The choicest and best wine you’ve saved until now!” When Jesus turned water to wine there in Cana, This was the first miracle He’d ever done. His glory He thus did reveal to the people, And as a result, His disciples were won. Lord, may I be like them, believing You fully. And like the stone water jars, may I e’er be, Filled up to the brim with Your transforming Spirit. Reveal now Your glory to others through me.

• [Why 3:8] Today Thy Mercy Calls Me

  Today Thy mercy calls me to wash away my sin; However great my trespass, whate’er I may have been; However long from mercy I may have turned away, Thy blood, O Christ, can cleanse me, and make me white today. Today Thy gate is open, and all who enter in Shall find a Father’s welcome, and pardon for their sin; The past shall be forgotten, a present joy be given; A future grace be promised, a glorious crown in Heav’n. Today the Father calls me, the Holy Spirit waits, The blessèd angels gather around the heav’nly gates; No question will be asked me, how often I have come; Although I oft have wandered, it is my Father’s home. O all embracing mercy, thou ever open door, What shall I do without thee when heart and eyes run o’er? When all things seem against me, to drive me to despair, I know one gate is open, one ear will hear my prayer.
