Ulangan 28:30

28:30 You will be engaged to a woman and another man will rape ¹  her. You will build a house but not live in it. You will plant a vineyard but not even begin to use it.

Mikha 1:6

1:6 “I will turn Samaria ²  into a heap of ruins in an open field –

vineyards will be planted there! ³ 

I will tumble ⁴  the rubble of her stone walls ⁵  down into the valley,

and tear down her fortifications to their foundations. ⁶ 

[28:30]  ¹ tc For MT reading שָׁגַל (shagal, “ravish; violate”), the Syriac, Targum, and Vulgate presume the less violent שָׁכַב (shakhav, “lie with”). The unexpected counterpart to betrothal here favors the originality of the MT.

[1:6]  ⁵ tn Heb “her stones.” The term stones is a metonymy for the city walls whose foundations were constructed of stone masonry.

[1:6]  ⁶ tn Heb “I will uncover her foundations.” The term “foundations” refers to the lower courses of the stones of the city’s outer fortification walls.
