[4:15]  1 tn Heb “give great care to your souls.”

[18:2]  2 tn Heb “he” (and throughout the verse).

[18:2]  3 tn Heb “brothers,” but not referring to actual siblings. Cf. NASB “their countrymen”; NRSV “the other members of the community.”

[24:13]  4 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation seeks to reflect with “by all means.”

[24:13]  5 tn Or “righteous” (so NIV, NLT).

[25:3]  6 tn Heb “he”; the referent (the judge) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[25:3]  7 tn Heb “Forty blows he may strike him”; however, since the judge is to witness the punishment (v. 2) it is unlikely the judge himself administered it.

[25:3]  8 tn Heb “your brothers” but not limited only to an actual sibling; cf. NAB) “your kinsman”; NRSV, NLT “your neighbor.”

[28:43]  9 tn Heb “the foreigner.” This is a collective singular and has therefore been translated as plural; this includes the pronouns in the following verse, which are also singular in the Hebrew text.

[30:14]  10 tn Heb “heart.”

[31:18]  11 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with “certainly.”

[31:18]  12 tn Heb “he.” Smr, LXX, and the Targums read the plural “they.” See note on the first occurrence of “they” in v. 16.
