6:13 You must revere the Lord your God, serve him, and take oaths using only his name.

[13:13]  ⁵ tn The translation understands the relative clause as a statement by Moses, not as part of the quotation from the evildoers. See also v. 2.

[17:3]  ⁶ tc The MT reads “and to the sun,” thus including the sun, the moon, and other heavenly spheres among the gods. However, Theodotion and Lucian read “or to the sun,” suggesting perhaps that the sun and the other heavenly bodies are not in the category of actual deities.

[17:3]  ⁷ tn Heb “which I have not commanded you.” The words “to worship” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[19:19]  ⁸ tn Heb “you will burn out” (בִּעַרְתָּ, bi’arta). Like a cancer, unavenged sin would infect the whole community. It must, therefore, be excised by the purging out of its perpetrators who, presumably, remained unrepentant (cf. Deut 13:6; 17:7, 12; 21:21; 22:21-22, 24; 24:7).

[29:26]  ¹⁰ tn Heb “did not assign to them”; NASB, NRSV “had not allotted to them.”
