9:15 Then ¹  the four angels who had been prepared for this ²  hour, day, ³  month, and year were set free to kill ⁴  a third of humanity.

2:14 But I have a few things against you: You have some people there who follow the teaching of Balaam, ¹¹  who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block ¹²  before the people ¹³  of Israel so they would eat food sacrificed to idols and commit sexual immorality. ¹⁴

[9:15]  ³ tn The Greek term καί (kai) has not been translated here and before the following term “month” since English normally uses a coordinating conjunction only between the last two elements in a series of three or more.

[9:15]  ⁴ tn Grk “so that they might kill,” but the English infinitive is an equivalent construction to indicate purpose here.

[17:17]  ⁵ tn Grk “hearts.”

[2:14]  ¹⁴ tn Due to the actual events in the OT (Num 22-24; 31:16), πορνεῦσαι (porneusai) is taken to mean “sexual immorality.” BDAG 854 s.v. πορνεύω 1 states, “engage in illicit sex, to fornicate, to whore…W. φαγεῖν εἰδωλόθυτα ‘eat meat offered to idols’ Rv 2:14, 20.”
