[1:28]  1 sn Reference to the glowing substance and the brilliant light and storm phenomena in vv. 27-28a echoes in reverse order the occurrence of these phenomena in v. 4.

[1:28]  2 tn The vision closes with the repetition of the verb “I saw” from the beginning of the vision in 1:4.

[3:15]  3 sn The name “Tel Abib” is a transliteration of an Akkadian term meaning “mound of the flood,” i.e., an ancient mound. It is not to be confused with the modern city of Tel Aviv in Israel.

[3:15]  4 tn Or “canal.”

[3:15]  5 sn A similar response to a divine encounter is found in Acts 9:8-9.

[6:6]  6 tn The Hebrew verb translated “wiped out” is used to describe the judgment of the Flood (Gen 6:7; 7:4, 23).

[7:9]  7 tn The meaning of the Hebrew term is primarily emotional: “to pity,” which in context implies an action, as in being moved by pity in order to spare them from the horror of their punishment.

[7:9]  8 tn Heb “According to your behavior I will place on you.”

[7:9]  9 tn The MT lacks “you.” It has been added for clarification.

[7:27]  10 tn Heb “and by their judgments.”

[16:34]  11 tn Heb “With you it was opposite of women in your prostitution.”

[20:6]  12 tn Heb “I lifted up my hand to them.”

[20:6]  13 tn Or “searched out.” The Hebrew word is used to describe the activity of the spies in “spying out” the land of Canaan (Num 13-14); cf. KJV “I had espied for them.”

[20:6]  14 sn The phrase “a land flowing with milk and honey,” a figure of speech describing the land’s abundant fertility, occurs in v. 15 as well as Exod 3:8, 17; 13:5; 33:3; Lev 20:24; Num 13:27; Deut 6:3; 11:9; 26:9; 27:3; Josh 5:6; Jer 11:5; 32:23 (see also Deut 1:25; 8:7-9).

[22:20]  15 tn Heb “I will put.” No object is supplied in the Hebrew, prompting many to emend the text to “I will blow.” See BHS and verse 21.
