Yehezkiel 3:17

3:17 “Son of man, I have appointed you a watchman ¹  for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you must give them a warning from me.

Yehezkiel 20:12

20:12 I also gave them my Sabbaths ²  as a reminder of our relationship, ³  so that they would know that I, the Lord, sanctify them. ⁴ 

Yehezkiel 33:7

33:7 “As for you, son of man, I have made you a watchman ⁵  for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you must warn them on my behalf.

Yehezkiel 33:9

33:9 But if you warn the wicked man to change his behavior, ⁶  and he refuses to change, ⁷  he will die for his iniquity, but you have saved your own life.

[3:17]  ¹ tn The literal role of a watchman is described in 2 Sam 18:24; 2 Kgs 9:17.

[20:12]  ² sn Ezekiel’s contemporary, Jeremiah, also stressed the importance of obedience to the Sabbath law (Jer 17).

[20:12]  ⁴ tn Or “set them apart.” The last phrase of verse 12 appears to be a citation of Exod 31:13.

[33:7]  ⁵ sn Jeremiah (Jer 6:17) and Habakkuk (Hab 2:1) also served in the role of a watchman.

[33:9]  ⁶ tn Heb “from his way to turn from it.”
