Yehezkiel 3:18

3:18 When I say to the wicked, “You will certainly die,” ¹  and you do not warn him – you do not speak out to warn the wicked to turn from his wicked deed and wicked lifestyle so that he may live – that wicked person will die for his iniquity, ²  but I will hold you accountable for his death. ³ 

Yehezkiel 12:12

12:12 “The prince ⁴  who is among them will raise his belongings ⁵  onto his shoulder in darkness, and will go out. He ⁶  will dig a hole in the wall to leave through. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land with his eyes.

Yehezkiel 14:11

14:11 so that the house of Israel will no longer go astray from me, nor continue to defile themselves by all their sins. They will be my people and I will be their God, ⁷  declares the sovereign Lord.’”

Yehezkiel 37:9

37:9 He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath, ⁸  – prophesy, son of man – and say to the breath: ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these corpses so that they may live.’”

[3:18]  ¹ sn Even though the infinitive absolute is used to emphasize the warning, the warning is still implicitly conditional, as the following context makes clear.

[3:18]  ² tn Or “in his punishment.” The phrase “in/for [a person’s] iniquity” occurs fourteen times in Ezekiel: here and v. 19; 4:17; 7:13, 16; 18: 17, 18, 19, 20; 24:23; 33:6, 8, 9; 39:23. The Hebrew word for “iniquity” may also mean the “punishment for iniquity.”

[3:18]  ³ tn Heb “his blood I will seek from your hand.” The expression “seek blood from the hand” is equivalent to requiring the death penalty (2 Sam 4:11-12).

[12:12]  ⁴ sn The prince is a reference to Zedekiah.

[12:12]  ⁵ tn The words “his belongings” are not in the Hebrew text but are implied.

[12:12]  ⁶ tc The MT reads “they”; the LXX and Syriac read “he.”

[14:11]  ⁷ sn I will be their God. See Exod 6:7; Lev 26:12; Jer 7:23; 11:4.

[37:9]  ⁸ tn Or “spirit,” and several times in this verse.
