[9:1]  1 tc Heb “they approached.” Reading the imperative assumes the same consonantal text but different vowels.

[9:5]  2 tn Heb “to these he said in my ears.”

[9:5]  3 tn The meaning of the Hebrew term is primarily emotional: “to pity,” which in context implies an action, as in being moved by pity in order to spare them from the horror of their punishment.

[11:11]  4 tn The Hebrew text does not have the negative particle, but it is implied. The negative particle in the previous line does double duty here.

[18:2]  5 tn This word only occurs here and in the parallel passage in Jer 31:29-30 in the Qal stem and in Eccl 10:10 in the Piel stem. In the latter passage it refers to the bluntness of an ax that has not been sharpened. Here the idea is of the “bluntness” of the teeth, not from having ground them down due to the bitter taste of sour grapes but to the fact that they have lost their “edge,” “bite,” or “sharpness” because they are numb from the sour taste. For this meaning for the word, see W. L. Holladay, Jeremiah (Hermeneia), 2:197.

[25:5]  6 tn Heb “the sons of Ammon.”

[29:13]  7 sn In Ezek 4:4-8 it was said that the house of Judah would suffer forty years.

[33:21]  8 tn January 19, 585 b.c.

[33:21]  10 tn Heb “smitten.”

[36:38]  11 map For location see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[43:3]  12 tc Heb “I.” The reading is due to the confusion of yod (י, indicating a first person pronoun) and vav (ו, indicating a third person pronoun). A few medieval Hebrew mss, Theodotion’s Greek version, and the Latin Vulgate support a third person pronoun here.

[45:6]  13 tn Heb “five thousand cubits” (i.e., 2.625 kilometers).

[45:6]  14 tn Heb “twenty-five thousand cubits” (i.e., 13.125 kilometers).

[48:17]  15 tn Heb “two hundred fifty cubits” (i.e., 131.25 meters); the phrase occurs three more times in this verse.

[48:20]  16 tn Heb “twenty-five thousand cubits” (i.e., 13.125 kilometers).
