Yesaya 13:11

13:11 ¹ I will punish the world for its evil, ² 

and wicked people for their sin.

I will put an end to the pride of the insolent,

I will bring down the arrogance of tyrants. ³ 

Yesaya 24:20

24:20 The earth will stagger around ⁴  like a drunk;

it will sway back and forth like a hut in a windstorm. ⁵ 

Its sin will weigh it down,

and it will fall and never get up again.

Yesaya 64:9

64:9 Lord, do not be too angry!

Do not hold our sins against us continually! ⁶ 

Take a good look at your people, at all of us! ⁷ 

[13:11]  ¹ sn The Lord is definitely speaking (again?) at this point. See the note at v. 4.

[13:11]  ² tn Or “I will bring disaster on the world.” Hebrew רָעָה (ra’ah) could refer to the judgment (i.e., disaster, calamity) or to the evil that prompts it. The structure of the parallel line favors the latter interpretation.

[13:11]  ³ tn Or perhaps, “the violent”; cf. NASB, NIV “the ruthless.”

[24:20]  ⁴ tn Heb “staggering, staggers.” The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute before the finite verb for emphasis and sound play.

[24:20]  ⁵ tn The words “in a windstorm” are supplied in the translation to clarify the metaphor.

[64:9]  ⁶ tn Heb “do not remember sin continually.”

[64:9]  ⁷ tn Heb “Look, gaze at your people, all of us.” Another option is to translate, “Take a good look! We are all your people.”
