[2:13]  1 sn The cedars of Lebanon and oaks of Bashan were well-known for their size and prominence. They make apt symbols here for powerful men who think of themselves as prominent and secure.

[32:13]  2 tn “Mourn” is supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons. In the Hebrew text vv. 12-13 are one long sentence.

[32:13]  3 tn Heb “indeed, over all the houses of joy.” It is not certain if this refers to individual homes or to places where parties and celebrations were held.

[32:13]  4 sn This same phrase is used in 22:2.

[37:4]  5 tn Heb “all the words of the chief adviser whom his master, the king of Assyria, sent to taunt the living God.”

[37:4]  6 tn Heb “and rebuke the words which the Lord your God hears.”

[37:4]  7 tn Heb “and lift up a prayer on behalf of the remnant that is found.”

[37:31]  8 tn Heb “The remnant of the house of Judah that is left will add roots below and produce fruit above.”
