Yesaya 27:10

Konteks

27:10 For the fortified city 1  is left alone;

it is a deserted settlement

and abandoned like the desert.

Calves 2  graze there;

they lie down there

and eat its branches bare. 3

Yesaya 35:6

Konteks

35:6 Then the lame will leap like a deer,

the mute tongue will shout for joy;

for water will flow 4  in the desert,

streams in the wilderness. 5

Yesaya 41:18-19

Konteks

41:18 I will make streams flow down the slopes

and produce springs in the middle of the valleys.

I will turn the desert into a pool of water

and the arid land into springs.

41:19 I will make cedars, acacias, myrtles, and olive trees grow in the wilderness;

I will make evergreens, firs, and cypresses grow together in the desert.

Yesaya 43:19-20

Konteks

43:19 “Look, I am about to do something new.

Now it begins to happen! 6  Do you not recognize 7  it?

Yes, I will make a road in the desert

and paths 8  in the wilderness.

43:20 The wild animals of the desert honor me,

the jackals and ostriches,

because I put water in the desert

and streams in the wilderness,

to quench the thirst of my chosen people,

[27:10]  1 sn The identity of this city is uncertain. The context suggests that an Israelite city, perhaps Samaria or Jerusalem, is in view. For discussions of interpretive options see J. N. Oswalt, Isaiah (NICOT), 1:496-97, and Paul L. Redditt, “Once Again, the City in Isaiah 24-27,” HAR 10 (1986), 332.

[27:10]  2 tn The singular form in the text is probably collective.

[27:10]  3 tn Heb “and destroy her branches.” The city is the antecedent of the third feminine singular pronominal suffix. Apparently the city is here compared to a tree. See also v. 11.

[35:6]  4 tn Heb “burst forth” (so NAB); KJV “break out.”

[35:6]  5 tn Or “Arabah” (NASB); KJV, NIV, NRSV, NLT “desert.”

[43:19]  6 tn Heb “sprouts up”; NASB “will spring forth.”

[43:19]  7 tn Or “know” (KJV, ASV); NASB “be aware of”; NAB, NIV, NRSV “perceive.”

[43:19]  8 tn The Hebrew texts has “streams,” probably under the influence of v. 20. The Qumran scroll 1QIsaa has נתיבות (“paths”).
