Yesaya 28:7
Konteks28:7 Even these men 1 stagger because of wine,
they stumble around because of beer –
priests and prophets stagger because of beer,
they are confused 2 because of wine,
they stumble around because of beer;
they stagger while seeing prophetic visions, 3
they totter while making legal decisions. 4
Yesaya 32:6
Konteks32:6 For a fool speaks disgraceful things; 5
his mind plans out sinful deeds. 6
He commits godless deeds 7
and says misleading things about the Lord;
he gives the hungry nothing to satisfy their appetite 8
and gives the thirsty nothing to drink. 9
[28:7] 1 tn Heb “these.” The demonstrative pronoun anticipates “priests and prophets” two lines later.
[28:7] 2 tn According to HALOT 135 s.v. III בלע, the verb form is derived from בָּלַע (bala’, “confuse”), not the more common בָּלַע (“swallow”). See earlier notes at 3:12 and 9:16.
[28:7] 3 tn Heb “in the seeing.”
[28:7] 4 tn Heb “[in] giving a decision.”
[32:6] 5 tn Or “foolishness,” in a moral-ethical sense. See 9:17.
[32:6] 6 tn Heb “and his heart commits sin”; KJV, ASV “his heart will work iniquity”; NASB “inclines toward wickedness.”
[32:6] 7 tn Heb “in order to do [or “so that he does”] what is godless [or “defiled”].”
[32:6] 8 tn Heb “so that he leaves empty the appetite [or “desire”] of the hungry.”
[32:6] 9 tn Heb “and the drink of the thirsty he causes to fail.”
