[31:8]  3 tn Heb “he will flee for himself from before a sword.”

[38:3]  4 tn Heb “walked before you.” For a helpful discussion of the background and meaning of this Hebrew idiom, see M. Cogan and H. Tadmor, II Kings (AB), 254.

[38:3]  5 tn Heb “and with a complete heart”; KJV, ASV “with a perfect heart.”

[38:3]  6 tn Heb “and that which is good in your eyes I have done.”

[38:3]  7 tn Heb “wept with great weeping”; NCV “cried loudly”; TEV “began to cry bitterly.”

[44:14]  8 tn It is not certain what type of tree this otherwise unattested noun refers to. Cf. ASV “a holm-tree” (NRSV similar).

[44:14]  9 tn Heb “strengthens for himself,” i.e., “secures for himself” (see BDB 55 s.v. אָמֵץ Pi.2).

[44:14]  10 tn Some prefer to emend אֹרֶן (’oren) to אֶרֶז (’erez, “cedar”), but the otherwise unattested noun appears to have an Akkadian cognate, meaning “cedar.” See H. R. Cohen, Biblical Hapax Legomena (SBLDS), 44-45. HALOT 90 s.v. I אֹרֶן offers the meaning “laurel.”
