TB NETBible YUN-IBR Ref. Silang Nama Gambar Himne

Yesaya 44:8

Konteks

44:8 Don’t panic! Don’t be afraid! 1

Did I not tell you beforehand and decree it?

You are my witnesses! Is there any God but me?

There is no other sheltering rock; 2  I know of none.

Yesaya 51:4-6

Konteks

51:4 Pay attention to me, my people!

Listen to me, my people!

For 3  I will issue a decree, 4

I will make my justice a light to the nations. 5

51:5 I am ready to vindicate, 6

I am ready to deliver, 7

I will establish justice among the nations. 8

The coastlands 9  wait patiently for me;

they wait in anticipation for the revelation of my power. 10

51:6 Look up at the sky!

Look at the earth below!

For the sky will dissipate 11  like smoke,

and the earth will wear out like clothes;

its residents will die like gnats.

But the deliverance I give 12  is permanent;

the vindication I provide 13  will not disappear. 14

Yesaya 56:6

Konteks

56:6 As for foreigners who become followers of 15  the Lord and serve him,

who love the name of the Lord and want to be his servants –

all who observe the Sabbath and do not defile it,

and who are faithful to 16  my covenant –

Yesaya 57:13

Konteks

57:13 When you cry out for help, let your idols 17  help you!

The wind blows them all away, 18

a breeze carries them away. 19

But the one who looks to me for help 20  will inherit the land

and will have access to 21  my holy mountain.”

Yesaya 65:22

Konteks

65:22 No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, 22

or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, 23

for my people will live as long as trees, 24

and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced. 25

[44:8]  1 tn BDB 923 s.v. רָהָה derives this verb from an otherwise unattested root, while HALOT 403 s.v. יָרָה defines it as “be stupefied” on the basis of an Arabic cognate. The form is likely a corruption of תיראו, the reading attested in the Qumran scroll 1QIsaa.

[44:8]  2 tn Heb “rock” or “rocky cliff,” a title that depicts God as a protective refuge in his role as sovereign king; thus the translation “sheltering rock.”

[51:4]  3 tn Or “certainly.”

[51:4]  4 tn Heb “instruction [or “a law”] will go out from me.”

[51:4]  5 tn Heb “and my justice for a light to the nations I will cause to rest.”

[51:5]  6 tn Heb “my righteousness [or “vindication”] is near.”

[51:5]  7 tn Heb “my deliverance goes forth.”

[51:5]  8 tn Heb “and my arms will judge [on behalf of] nations.”

[51:5]  9 tn Or “islands” (NIV); TEV “Distant lands.”

[51:5]  10 tn Heb “for my arm” (so NIV, NRSV).

[51:6]  11 tn Heb “will be torn in pieces.” The perfect indicates the certitude of the event, from the Lord’s rhetorical perspective.

[51:6]  12 tn Heb “my deliverance.” The same Hebrew word can also be translated “salvation” (so KJV, NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT); cf. CEV “victory.”

[51:6]  13 tn Heb “my righteousness [or “vindication”].”

[51:6]  14 tn Heb “will not be shattered [or “dismayed”].”

[56:6]  15 tn Heb “who attach themselves to.”

[56:6]  16 tn Heb “and take hold of”; NAB “hold to”; NIV, NRSV “hold fast.”

[57:13]  17 tn The Hebrew text has קִבּוּצַיִךְ (qibbutsayikh, “your gatherings”), an otherwise unattested noun from the verbal root קָבַץ (qavats, “gather”). Perhaps this alludes to their religious assemblies and by metonymy to their rituals. Since idolatry is a prominent theme in the context, some understand this as a reference to a collection of idols. The second half of the verse also favors this view.

[57:13]  18 tn Heb “all of them a wind lifts up.”

[57:13]  19 tn Heb “a breath takes [them] away.”

[57:13]  20 tn Or “seeks refuge in me.” “Seeking refuge” is a metonymy for “being loyal to.”

[57:13]  21 tn Heb “possess, own.” The point seems to be that he will have free access to God’s presence, as if God’s temple mount were his personal possession.

[65:22]  22 tn Heb “they will not build, and another live [in it].”

[65:22]  23 tn Heb “they will not plant, and another eat.”

[65:22]  24 tn Heb “for like the days of the tree [will be] the days of my people.”

[65:22]  25 tn Heb “the work of their hands” (so KJV, NASB, NIV, NRSV); NLT “their hard-won gains.”
