Yesaya 5:5

5:5 Now I will inform you

what I am about to do to my vineyard:

I will remove its hedge and turn it into pasture, ¹ 

I will break its wall and allow animals to graze there. ² 

Yesaya 5:9

5:9 The Lord who commands armies told me this: ³ 

“Many houses will certainly become desolate,

large, impressive houses will have no one living in them. ⁴ 

Yesaya 60:15

60:15 You were once abandoned

and despised, with no one passing through,

but I will make you ⁵  a permanent source of pride

and joy to coming generations.

[5:5]  ¹ tn Heb “and it will become [a place for] grazing.” בָּעַר (ba’ar, “grazing”) is a homonym of the more often used verb “to burn.”

[5:5]  ² tn Heb “and it will become a trampled place” (NASB “trampled ground”).

[5:9]  ³ tn Heb “in my ears, the Lord who commands armies [traditionally, the Lord of hosts].”

[5:9]  ⁴ tn Heb “great and good [houses], without a resident.”

[60:15]  ⁵ tn Heb “Instead of your being abandoned and despised, with no one passing through, I will make you.”
