[9:5] 1 tn Heb “Indeed every boot marching with shaking.” On the meaning of סְאוֹן (sÿ’on, “boot”) and the related denominative verb, both of which occur only here, see HALOT 738 s.v. סְאוֹן.
[30:32] 2 tc The Hebrew text has “every blow from a founded [i.e., “appointed”?] cudgel.” The translation above, with support from a few medieval Hebrew
[30:32] 3 tn Heb “which the Lord lays on him.”
[30:32] 4 tn Heb “will be with” (KJV similar).
[30:32] 5 tn The Hebrew text reads literally, “and with battles of brandishing [weapons?] he will fight against him.” Some prefer to emend וּבְמִלְחֲמוֹת (uvÿmilkhamot, “and with battles of”) to וּבִמְחֹלוֹת (uvimkholot, “and with dancing”). Note the immediately preceding references to musical instruments.
[57:5] 6 tn Heb “inflame yourselves”; NRSV “burn with lust.” This verse alludes to the practice of ritual sex that accompanied pagan fertility rites.
[57:5] 7 sn This apparently alludes to the practice of child sacrifice (cf. TEV, CEV, NLT).
[59:8] 8 tn Heb “a way of peace they do not know, and there is no justice in their pathways.”
