[1:45] 1 sn Nathanael is traditionally identified with Bartholomew (although John never describes him as such). He appears here after Philip, while in all lists of the twelve except in Acts 1:13, Bartholomew follows Philip. Also, the Aramaic Bar-tolmai means “son of Tolmai,” the surname; the man almost certainly had another name.
[1:45] 2 tn “Also” is not in the Greek text, but is implied.
[7:18] 3 tn Grk “who speaks from himself.”
[7:18] 5 tn Or “praise”; Grk “glory.”
[7:18] 7 tn Or “praise”; Grk “glory.”
[7:18] 8 tn Or “is truthful”; Grk “is true.”
[14:22] 9 tn Grk “(not Iscariot).” The proper noun (Judas) has been repeated for clarity and smoothness in English style.
[14:22] sn This is a parenthetical comment by the author.
[14:22] 10 tn Grk “said to him.”
[14:22] sn The disciples still expected at this point that Jesus, as Messiah, was going to reveal his identity as such to the world (cf. 7:4).
