8:23 Jesus replied, ¹  “You people ²  are from below; I am from above. You people are from this world; I am not from this world.

[8:23]  ² tn The word “people” is supplied in English to clarify the plural Greek pronoun and verb.

[8:1]  ³ sn The Mount of Olives is a hill running north to south about 1.8 mi (3 km) long, lying east of Jerusalem across the Kidron Valley. It was named for the large number of olive trees that grew on it.

[4:5]  ⁴ tn Grk “town of Samaria.” The noun Σαμαρείας (Samareias) has been translated as an attributive genitive.

[4:5]  ⁵ sn Sychar was somewhere in the vicinity of Shechem, possibly the village of Askar, 1.5 km northeast of Jacob’s well.

[4:5]  ⁶ sn Perhaps referred to in Gen 48:22.
