10:20 Joshua and the Israelites almost totally wiped them out, but some survivors did escape to the fortified cities. ¹

11:4 These kings came out with their armies; they were as numerous as the sand on the seashore and had a large number of horses and chariots. ²

11:12 Joshua captured all these royal cities and all their kings and annihilated them with the sword, ³  as Moses the Lord’s servant had commanded.

[10:20]  ¹ tn Heb “When Joshua and the sons of Israel finished defeating them with a very great defeat until they were destroyed (now the survivors escaped to the fortified cities).” In the Hebrew text the initial temporal clause (“when Joshua…finished”) is subordinated to v. 21 (“the whole army returned”).

[11:4]  ² tn Heb “They and all their camps with them came out, a people as numerous as the sand which is on the edge of the sea in multitude, and [with] horses and chariots very numerous.”
