[2:24]  1 tn Heb “Surely the Lord has given into our hand all the land.” The report by the spies uses the Hebrew perfect, suggesting certitude.

[2:24]  2 tn Heb “are melting away because of us.”

[11:2]  3 tn Heb “and to the kings who [are] from the north in.”

[11:2]  4 tn Heb “Chinneroth,” a city and plain located in the territory of Naphtali in Galilee (BDB 490 s.v. כִּנֶּרֶת, כִּנֲרוֹת).

[11:2]  sn Kinnereth was a city in Galilee located near the Sea of Galilee (Deut 3:17). The surrounding region also became known by this name (1 Kgs 15:20; cf. Matt 14:34), and eventually even the lake itself (Josh 12:3; cf. Luke 5:1).

[12:6]  5 tn Heb “gave it for a possession.”

[13:8]  6 tn The MT reads “with him,” which is problematic, since the reference would be to the other half of the tribe of Manasseh (not the half mentioned in v. 7).

[13:8]  7 tn Heb “received their inheritance, which Moses had assigned to them beyond the Jordan.”

[13:14]  8 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Moses) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[13:14]  9 tn Heb “did not assign an inheritance.”

[13:14]  10 tn That is, “their source of food and life.”

[13:14]  11 tn Or “offerings made by fire.”

[13:14]  12 tn Or “promised” (Heb “spoke”).

[13:14]  sn For the background of this observation, see Deut 18:1-2.

[14:4]  13 tn Heb “and they did not assign a portion to the Levites in the land, except cities [in which] to live and their pastures for their cattle and property.”

[17:15]  14 tn Heb “If you are a great people.”

[18:12]  15 map For location see Map5 B2; Map6 E1; Map7 E1; Map8 E3; Map10 A2; Map11 A1.

[19:9]  16 tn Heb “from the portion of the sons of Judah was the inheritance of the sons of Simeon for the portion of the sons of Judah was too large for them, and the sons of Simeon received an inheritance in the midst of their inheritance.”

[20:7]  17 tn Heb “set apart.”
